Rand agrees with Sven

Senator Rand Paul said on CNBC essentially what I’ve been arguing:

I have yet another thought on how we can fix this. Why don’t we let the Democrats pass whatever they want? If they are the party of higher taxes, all the Republicans vote present and let the Democrats raise taxes as high as they want to raise them, let Democrats in the Senate raise taxes, let the president sign it and then make them own the tax increase. And when the economy stalls, when the economy sputters, when people lose their jobs, they know which party to blame, the party of high taxes. Let’s don’t be the party of just almost as high taxes.

I think this is a brilliant way to not be seen as obstructionists while at the same time not being complicit.  Let the Democrats have their tax increases, just make them do it without any Republican votes.

  1. taxes are only one part of the equation; the other part is spending: on this count, the Republicans are as guilty as the Democrats. Real entitlement reform, indeed/

  2. Completely agree with you and Rand Paul. Let them own it. This may be the only way to get the American people to understand the falsehood of asserting the wealthy do not pay their fair share, and that spending is the problem side of the revenue/spending equation.

  3. A voting majority of Americans only care about continuing their ride on the government gravy train. They don’t really understand or care to understand who and how their checks are paid for. If these net tax consumers either have diminished “entitlements” or no “entitlements” then, like little children, they will throw a tantrum like they do in European Welfare States when the “free water” well begins to run dry. The truth is that most of the voting majority are either government employees, retired government employees or a Welfare recipient at some level. This voting majority will always vote their economic interests and not the fiscal interests of the nation. In the end, this voting majority of net tax consumers really don’t care how high taxes go because they know that someone else will pay the bill. They only care about getting “theirs.”

  4. Easy to say when you have a high paying job… not so easy when people are already struggling to survive and tax=theft according to Judge Nap.

  5. Bett….It is documented that 2/3 of the money spent on the poor never reaches the poor but is lost to administration, waste, fraud and corruption. Goolgle Welfare Waste and fraud to get the facts. Oh, and I,m 70 years old,am far from having a “high paying job”and still I don’t receive Social Security.
