Readers of Pileus may not know that our own Jason Sorens was the founder of the wonderful Free State Project. This “project” aims to realize “liberty in our lifetime” by recruiting 20,000 friends of liberty to move to New Hampshire and actively contribute towards the making of a free society. Fortunately for the Free State Project, New Hampshire was a wise choice as the target state since it is already the freest state in the union by many accounts. Those who join the FSP aren’t committed to moving until the 20,000 figure has been officially reached. Its website claims that 11,609 have signed up already. However, lots of liberty-lovers couldn’t wait and moved early (with many getting active in politics to fight for liberty, including 12 who are state representatives!).
It is great to report that the FSP now has 1000 members who have moved to the state. Here is an article that focuses on the 1000th early mover. Apparently a few more have joined #1000 since that article was written as the FSP website now claims 1004 early movers.
Given what the FSP (in conjunction with NH’s own native freedom lovers) has already achieved up in New Hampshire, I can imagine so many possibilities ahead – especially once 19,000 other FSPers migrate to the Granite State. As its President notes: “With its ‘live and let live’ culture, its livability, its low taxes, its relative prosperity,” Gericke said, “New Hampshire is well-situated to become the beacon of liberty for the rest of the country.”
I only wish there was a seat on the Porcupine Express for ole Grover!
