Here is what I predicted back on January 6:
The latest job numbers heading into the November election will show unemployment at 7.8%, and Barack Obama will ride that to a very narrow victory over Mitt Romney.
Sigh.

Pileus is a group of scholars who examine public policy and philosophy in light of our respective disciplines. We differ in many ways but share a commitment to liberty and personal responsibility.

In ancient Rome, a pileus was a felt cap given to slaves upon receiving their freedom. Since then, this simple cap has been a powerful symbol of liberty.
well, it certainly was not a very narrow victory.
You’re joking, right?
er. since the popular vote does not decide who is president, i am probably not joking. if the popular vote did indeed decide who was president, your comment would be correct.
Lots of competitions in politics, sports and other venues of life are very close in substantive terms even though the “score” appears lopsided. Any sports fan knows that how close a game is may not be be reflected on the scoreboard.
Suppose a candidate won every state by 1 vote and captured all 538 Electoral College votes. If you are saying that isn’t a close, narrow victory, then, I’m afraid, you aren’t a person who has much useful or interesting to say about politics.
(Sorry for being testy, but for obvious reasons, I’m not in a good mood today.)
that’s a fair point; on the other hand, you have chosen the most extreme case. i think most would agree that in the context (even set up by the Romney camp) it was far less competitive than it appeared to be: Obama won all the “battle ground” states including Florida, which was supposed to be firmly in Romney’s camp. Even though I supported Romney, I think the “momentum” meme released at the end was more hurtful than helpful.
